    No, I think I see whats happening. The first command I send always gets
    responded to with invalid. After that, things seem to work correctly, at
    least from my telnet client. I expect this is a problem with my telnet
    client, not the server, although that may be a server bug. I'm using PuTTY,
    a free telnet/ssh client. I'll try another.

    I still have some testing to do using the java API in the toolkit. I should
    get a better idea how well things work after that. Currently, I am seeing
    some other problems, but I need to get a handle on them before reportin
    them as bugs.
