    Yes, the STATUS command is the right way to determine changes to the
    expiration date, though depending on the server-side implementation you may
    or may not be authorized to retrieve domain info before the transfer is
    completed. The VeriSign-GRS registry does not allow a non-sponsoring
    registrar to retrieve domain object information (which means you can't
    retrieve it until after the transfer is approved and you become the
    sponsoring registrar), but the date info is provided to both registrars in
    an e-mail message sent to both registrars.
